Monk fruit, or lo han guo, is a type of small green melon that are native to Southern China. It can be used as a sweetener by making an extract derived from dried fruit. The extract is 150-250 times sweeter than table sugar, has zero calories and carbs, and does not raise blood glucose levels, making it suitable for people with diabetes.
Monk fruit can be used as sweeteners in almost anything, such as;
- hot tea, iced tea, or lemonade
- salad dressings
- oatmeal or other hot cereals
